Alexander
Ellison had promised his father on his deathbed to take care of his
mother. That is why he was on his way to pick up her hairdresser to run
her out to his mother’s house after work. Having already built an
image in his mind of a brassy blonde, he definitely didn’t expect the
tall striking woman with deep auburn hair. And his immediate attraction
to Gayle and her quick wit was a refreshing surprise.
Gayle
Gentry was immediately attracted to Alex and responded to that
attraction with a light flirtation to pass the time on the drive to his
mother’s house. That was until she saw his mother’s house and
realized that Alex came from real money. Then she immediately closed up
to him. After all, they were worlds apart socially and economically.
Alex was
utterly baffled by her withdrawal but never one to pass up a challenge;
he invited Gayle out to dinner after she finishes his mother’s hair.
They have a grand time and spend the night getting to know each other in
every sense of the word. The next morning Gayle goes home, having
decided that it was a wonderful one-night stand. However, that is all it
could ever be, as she is older then Alex and has a lot of baggage that
goes with her in the form of her kids and family.
But
again, Alex is never one to back down from a challenge. So he is
determined to change Gayle’s mind, especially as she is the only woman
who has ever made him come alive and actually feel. He isn’t as
concerned with Gayle’s baggage as she is. Now to only convince her and
the rest of the world of this fact.
In A
WORLD APART, Barri Bryan does a remarkable job of addressing every
single mother’s insecurities about her age, her weight and issues with
the children. This book reminds readers that a woman doesn’t have to
be perfect to find the perfect man. Love really can exist in an
imperfect world.
Gayle is
a character that this reviewer could easily relate to with her family
problems and her dilemmas with her two kids. She could very easily be a
neighbor or someone to chat with at the local bowling alley.
She is a down to earth woman with real fears and joys.
Alex is a
wonderful knight in shining amour, or in this case, a shining Lincoln,
who goes out of his way to prove to Gayle that what is really important
is that the two of them are together. He is also a wonderful example of
the fact that simply because one has money, one isn’t necessary happy.
This
reviewer would definitely recommend A WORLD APART to any reader that
needs to be reminded of happy endings and that love can overcome all.
This book will certainly help to restore your faith.
