Once there Elena has several issues to deal with: everyone’s disapproval of her investigation including her dead son who still talks with her, someone who is trying to kill her, her attraction to her ex-husband Tom, and the fact that she had kicked Johnny out of the house when he was only 15. Elena is forced to grow and accept herself as she uncovers lies and secrets that she never expected.

RETURNING TO TAOS by Ms Gilbert is an engaging tale of self discovery. In the course of her investigation, Elena learns to finally accept herself and the things that she has done in the past. She also learns not to accept friends, no matter how old, at face value. This reviewer was fascinated at the growth that Elena undergoes in RETURNING TO TAOS. At the same time however was unable to really relate or empathize with any of the characters.

Ms. Gilbert is a true artist painting pictures with her words. Even though this reviewer has never been to Taos, the descriptions are so vivid that any reader would be able to recognize the places that Elena visits in her search for the truth. This is a true gift and this reviewer for one hopes that Ms. Gilbert will continue to share this gift with her readers.
