| Olivia Logan’s boyfriend, Richard, relocated to France six months ago, putting their three year relationship on hold. Olivia, home in the states, has been waiting for his return, and plans to visit him over the New Year’s holiday. Her plans to get engaged on her holiday backfire when he calls the night before her flight to tell her he married a French lady. Olivia, heartbroken and feeling a bit lost, gets together with her friend Karen to reinvent herself as a single women. After years as one half of a couple, Olivia finds the dating scene a bit intimidating, but jumps in head first to find her true love. Karen’s gay hairdresser, Juan, finds himself looking for a roommate and invites Olivia to move in to escape living in the home she shared with Richard. As Olivia adjusts to the changes of single life, she meets the sexy guy across the hall. Hunter, a member of the rock band Alter Ego, finds his way into Olivia’s heart, but she fears being left behind when he becomes famous. Can Olivia overcome her fear of losing those she loves to fall in love, and live life to its fullest? Ms. Thompson has created a tale as old as time, with twists in the plot that will keep the reader hooked until the end. There are many hilarious scenes as Olivia makes her way into the dating scene. One favorite scene of this reviewer, was when touring Juan’s apartment, he invites Karen and Olivia to see his new painting. The risqué painting scene alone is enough to make any reader laugh out loud, and want to learn more about this man who inspires many hairstyles! The characters in REINVENTING OLIVIA will remain in your heart for a long time to come. The heartbreak Olivia has dealt with in her past make for a sad story, yet the secondary characters are a barrel of laughs that will keep the readers smiling as their hearts break for Olivia. Juan and Karen’s lives intertwine with the story to fill in the sorrow, and bring life to Olivia. Ms. Thompson’s first novel is a sure winner in the eyes of this reviewer.
