Holly Handford inherited her father’s used car lot and
has built it into a trustworthy place to shop for classic and pre-owned
cars. Her sales have
finally taken off and she is operating with a profit when Jack Murdock
opens a flashy car lot across the street from her.
Dealing with men who are out to hurt her business seems to be a
given for Holly. First she
finds out her boyfriend only wants her because of her inheritance, then
Mad Jack’s opens to give her business a run for its money.
Jack Murdock thinks Holly needs to play more and not work
quite so hard. In his
opinion competition is good for both Mad Jack’s and Handford Motors.
He is comfortable with his persona -- being loud with fancy
suits, babes for his ads, and loud billboards.
Holly is offended and demands he remove the flashy lights and
signs. Once he gets past
Holly’s guard he finds she has a lot of the characteristics he wants
in a wife. Can he convince
Holly to give them a chance?
Gayle Kasper has created a tale of romance with a modern
knight in shining armor. Jack
rides in a classic red MG instead of the typical white horse, but the
effect bowls over Holly. Jack
is a hero who knows how to get his girl.
While he knows his heart right away, he needs to bring Holly over
to his way of life. He
knows the right tricks and plays his hand well, giving him a five star
rating as a hero. Holly
makes a perfect counterpart for Jack, the playboy and the serious woman
who works hard and needs to learn to play more. Holly’s beauty and her love for cars make her a woman any
man should want to have in his life.
These two make a beautiful couple, the perfect for a romantic
tale.
This modern day fairy tale is not without its twists and
turns. Vandalism and
slander hurt Holly, and Jack makes it his business to come to her
rescue. Holly questions his
honor but still manages to lose her heart.
While Ms. Kasper keeps her villain a secret until the end, she
manages to make Jack look like a true blue kind of guy though out the
novel. This is a light
heart warming read that this reviewer enjoyed.
