Killer Turtle is fast-paced and full of
action!
Set in New Zealand, the story opens with a bang!
Literally. As the smoke settles and the dead men are taken away, a
seemingly harmless shell heart, with a crude drawing of a turtle etched
into it, is found. As the murders increase, this little turtle seems to
be the link. Will the police be able to uncover the mystery before more
innocent people die?
Filled with danger, action and a clever plot, this
book is hard to put down. The author combines several unusual elements
to produce a story that will generate interest among readers. He mixes
ancient religious customs and international terrorism to give the book a
current intensity with a powerful history. There is a strong sense of
impending danger throughout the story, and readers need to give this
book their full attention.
The author has also brought some of his own
knowledge and expertise to the story. As a native of New Zealand, he was
able to give readers a view of this land and the surrounding areas. His
experience as a scuba diver and pilot also allow him to have a credible
voice in those aspects of the story. This reviewer was especially
appreciative of the beauty of the islands and the mysteries of the
ocean.
However, readers should be aware that this book
contains a lot of violence, most of it the sexual kind. While it was in
keeping with the plot of the story, those scenes were hard to read with
all their graphic details. Also included were some ancient religious
rituals that are not for the squeamish.
A soft side of the book was the reuniting of Al
Brookes with his divorced wife, Jan. Their newly re-awakened love for
each other offsets the darker side of the story and provides the reader
with hope for a happy ending.
Killer Turtle doesn’t sneak up on you; it
grabs you and doesn’t let go.
