J.R.
Ward’s debut novel, DARK LOVER is an amazingly enticing dark fantasy.
Watch out Sherrilyn Kenyon; your Dark Hunters have competition in
the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
The
vampires and their slayers are fighting a deadly war for survival. A secret band of vampire warriors, the Black Dagger
Brotherhood, defends their race against the evil that would exterminate
them. When one of the
fiercest of these warriors has his life cut short, it falls to the only
purebred vampire left, the reluctant King of the vampires and leader of
the Brotherhood, Wrath, to help his brother’s half human/half vampire
daughter through her transition. But
Wrath has a score to settle with those that killed his family centuries
ago and is not sure he is emotionally capable of the task set before
him. If only Darius had
been given the time to explain to his only daughter her vampire
heritage.
Beth
Randall has been tossed from one foster home to another her entire life.
She has no idea that her father was a vampire until the
dangerously sexy Wrath shows up in her life.
The stories he tells her of her heritage are frightening but his
touch ignites something in her that she cannot explain and must explore.
Beth brings the light to Wrath’s darkness.
J.R.
Ward comes out of the gate running with her debut novel, the dark and
sensual DARK LOVER. Her
heroes are aggressive and dangerous.
These tortured souls are in desperate need of a softer, more
gentle balance. The six warriors that make up the Black Dagger Brotherhood
are all that stands between the vampire race and extinction by the
lessers. Unlike the other
vampires, selective breeding has made the Brotherhood stronger both
physically and mentally with the ability to heal quicker.
They are revered among their kind and the subject of legends.
The
minor characters in this engrossing book are equally complex and
compelling and cry out for a book of their own.
This reader is on pins and needles awaiting the next book in the
Black Dagger Brotherhood series, LOVER ETERNAL, due out in bookstores in
March 2006.
The
storyline is romantic suspense at its best.
Ward’s unique take on vampires will have paranormal romance and
dark fantasy readers cheering. DARK
LOVER is addictive and mesmerizing.
