If the reader is looking for an intriguing tale about eternal love and past lives, this short story will fit the bill.

It is the mid-1940s and Grace Collins comes to a small town in West Texas to teach at the small schoolhouse there. She is startled when a young woman, Sissie, comes to see about enrolling her daughter, Emmy Lou, in school there. From the moment she meets this young lady, she gets a feeling something is different. When Emmy Lou misses quite a bit of school, Grace goes to visit their home to check on her. Never did she expect that her life would be changed forever.

Cody Slayton is the brother of Sissie and when he and Grace meet at their home, both he and Grace are struck by the feeling they’ve known each other before. An immediate attraction sparks, drawing them into an unexpected adventure... For they each have a destiny to fulfill and a curse to break if they ever hope to find the love they seek.

This was an interesting premise for a story. The idea of past lives is not a new one, and it is one that has fascinated people for generations. What true romantic is not keen on this idea? There can be no more powerful a love then one that transcends time and many lives to be fulfilled. It is apparent from Grace and Cody’s first meeting that something exists between them that defies explanation. When they come together for the first time, the magic entwines them both, adding a surreal quality to their love. The final culmination of their love will surprise and delight the romantic at heart.

There were two slightly disappointing factors to this story though. It would have been nice to see a prologue of some sort, showing what started the curse that haunts Grace and Cody. Also, Sissie, though a lesser character, pays a larger role in the story and it would have been nice to have answers to a couple questions surrounding her subplot. These details were likely left out due to constraints of the length of the story. However, in spite of these questions left unanswered, this is a pleasing read that will captivate readers through the final page.
