Katherine Stone has written another poignant winner that will steal into the hearts of readers everywhere.

Sam Collier has spent the better part of his life searching for the one thing that would make it complete, the one thing that would chase away the shadows of the past.  Roaring from place to place atop his Harley, he finds himself cruising through Washington.  When a picturesque apple orchard calls to him, he hangs up the leather jacket, trades in his long hair for a much shorter style, and settles into a new life at Sarah’s Orchard.

He is jarred from his peaceful life when he learns that Ian Collier, the man he had believed to be the father who abandoned him when he was just four years old, has passed away.  Driven to Seattle to find answers, or maybe just to lay the ghosts of his past to rest, he encounters Dr. Kathleen Cahill.

Kathleen was Ian’s longtime friend, and the woman who was days away from becoming his wife.  Sam takes one look at Kathleen and feels as though he has just found the other half of his heart.  But things are not always as simple as we wish them to be, and before Sam and Kathleen can find their “happy ever after”, there are ghosts of the past, as well as the future, that need to be laid to rest.

Another Man’s Son is a beautifully written novel of loss, love and ultimately, hope.  Ms. Stone’s trademark lyrical style brings Sam, Ian and Kathleen to life.  Her characterization of Sam is deftly penned, in rich detail and emotion, and the reader feels a part of him as we watch him grow from the cynical man haunted by a past he cannot remember, to a man who has nothing but hope and dreams in his heart.

This reviewer also admires the way Ms. Stone incorporates secondary characters into her novels.  They are not just plot devices or cardboard cutouts.  Each secondary character is well thought out, well rounded and fully developed, and the reader has the added bonus of watching these secondary characters find their own road to love and happiness.  In Another Man’s Son, we have the pleasure of watching Natalie Davis and James Gannon, two characters who never dared to hope for love, fall for each other.  Their story is as much an integral part of the novel as Sam and Kathleen’s, and is told with the same attention to detail and sumptuous emotional splendor.

Set in Seattle, with Mount Rainier as the backdrop, readers will be sucked into the beauty of the area.  Ms. Stone’s description will have readers feeling the sun on their face and smelling the mist of the rain as the sun sets on Mount Rainier.  Having never visited the great state of Washington, this reviewer knows a trip to this area will have to be scheduled soon!

This reviewer has read every one of Ms. Stone’s books, and can say with sincerity that Another Man’s Son is one of her very best.  It will always occupy a special place in my heart.
