Maxfield Sinclair has been hurt once by a woman and has not dated since.  Although he has matured in the eight years since his fiancée called off their wedding, he is not ready to put his heart on the line for any woman.  Max, a sci-fi writer, becomes extremely popular as his novels have been developed into a television series.  At a Max Sinclair fan convention, someone fires a round of shots toward him and the guests.  A quick thinking Max grabs a woman and baby nearby, pulling them to safety.  After the gunman flees, Max learns that he has been shot and is rushed to the hospital.

Dr. Drew Cooper thinks Max is a sorry excuse for a writer.  She feels anything not literature is trivial.  When Max saves her life, and the life of her niece, Alice, she puts her feelings aside to go visit him at the hospital.  She ends up inviting him to a picnic in gratitude, and off starts his fascination with the intellectual blond.  Tiffani, Drew’s sister and Alice’s mother, is a divorced young woman who is looking for the right man.  She meets Max and sets her sights on him.  When Max finally realizes Tiffani fancies herself in love with him, he is shocked.  He thought she was trying to set him up with Drew!

Max and Drew’s opening scene leads straight into the action of ALL I EVER WANTED.  This fast-paced novel starts off with a bang, and keeps the plot moving quickly as feelings are explored and love and lust become apparent.  Max is a strong, yet uncouth character, who falls in love with the pretentious Drew, and then must learn to fit into her world.  As the two struggle to overcome Tiffani’s crush on Max, and their lifestyle differences, Ms. Fisher uses comic relief to diffuse situations that will bring tears to the readers’ eyes.  Packed with emotion, the novel is a quick read that will draw romance fans in, keeping the pages turning long into the night.

This contemporary novel has every aspect of an erotic tale without the crude and unnecessary sex scenes.  While the kissing is hot, the emotion is the focal point in ALL I EVER WANTED.  Until the end of the story, very chaste scenes produce enough of a heat to make the novel worthy of being a romance tale.  Toward the end, the author deals with kinky scenes, yet manages to downplay the scene enough to let any adult feel comfortable.  The hint of sex and sadism is there without the graphic scene that could make the reader uncomfortable.  This is NOT the book for a young teen, but any mature reader should devour the plot and come back looking for more!  Ellen Fisher is an author to be watched!  Her next novel ISN’T IT ROMANTIC is due out in May of 2004!
