Taking place in 1969, the Vietnam War era, this is the tumultuous story of two people who face many trials in their rocky road to a permanent love that will last forever.

Mandy Buchanan and Alex Foster are in love. Unfortunately, strong opposition from their families’ conspires to keep them apart. The Vietnam War is going on, and Alex is leaving to go fight. Despite their families’ vehement wishes they never marry, he and Mandy agree to wait until he returns and then marry anyway. Mandy decides to flee, joining the Peace Corps, while she waits for Alex to return home from the War.

Their paths take them in so many different directions, Mandy to West Africa, and Alex facing death in a tumultuous war that brought so much heartache to families who had soldiers fighting there.

With a deceitful web woven by their families, circumstances break Alex and Mandy apart. Alex returns back to the States, a war hero now, suffering from an injury sustained while in Vietnam. Being told Mandy has forsaken their love, Alex finds himself drowning his miseries in alcohol and dragging through a marriage with a woman he doesn’t even love.

Facing a seemingly disastrous, rocky road to a conclusion in their lives, Alex and Mandy’s lives are woven around the Vietnam War era, and the author brings the ambience out for the reader with vivid and clear pictures of this horrific time in the lives of all those who suffered through that war.

Although not this reviewer’s preferred genre, AFTER THE TWILIGHT makes a good read for those who like their stories ‘very-stark-real-life’. Alex and Mandy’s story is very poignant, and readers who enjoy this genre will find it hard to forget these two star-crossed lovers.
