After a suicide
attempt, Anna Carswell has met death and since that time still sees his
presence and knows when it is time for people to pass on. It’s not a
gift she particularly enjoys and hopes one day to confront the shadows
that haunt her and then move on with her life. She meets Nick, when
they are together on a research trip with their college professor. He’s
had similar experiences with the boogey man and is looking for closure.
Their college professor is interested in Anna, and not in a professional
way. He tries every trick to keep Anna and Nick apart, but when all
else fails and after being touched by the shadows himself, he sees he
can only resort to murder. Their journey takes them to some deep places
in Rome, where they finally catch up with the shadow called death.
Now this is the
kind of story that this reviewer really enjoys very much. Dark and
mysterious, deep and intriguing, with themes and topics one may not
usually find in a romantic story, this is the kind of tale you do not
want to read late at night. If you do, you might want to check under
your bed before you go to sleep, because after reading, you will
certainly believe that the boogey man really exists. Ms. Cloud has
written a deeply moving story, with emotions running high and not all in
a positive way. It’s a story that will get the adrenaline moving and
will captivate and entertain. This reviewer enjoyed the characters, the
plot and the very villainous villain. It is all in all a very well
rounded story and this reviewer can highly recommend it for those
readers who like to walk on the dark side.
