In 1864, Kristie
Somers family plantation was much larger and more productive than it is
now in 1999 because of the horrible things that happened to it at the
hands of the Union army during the civil war. At least that is how the
family has always told the story to her. When she manages to return to
1864 herself she learns that not only was Colonel Eric Langston not the
horrible destructive man that they said he was, he is also ruggedly
handsome and touchingly kind. As Kristie struggles to adjust to the
time period she finds herself in she also struggles with the feelings
she develops for a man that died one hundred thirty years ago. She
thought that she could just change a couple of things in her family
history and then return to her normal life but it turns out that the
amulet that took her back in time has more in store for her.
CHARMED
PASSAGE is the first book in the Passage Saga but could be
read as a stand-alone.
CHARMED
PASSAGE was this reviewer’s first time travel novel but will
definitely not be the last. All of the characters in this book are
portrayed with such complexity and such depth that by the end this
reviewer felt like part of the Somers family. Kristie is a very modern
woman and takes that mindset with her to the past which causes a stir
several times, yet she adapts better than most people in that situation
would. It takes a while for Kristie to come to the realization that her
family is wrong about the man they thought Eric was, but the learning
process she goes through makes for excellent reading.
The characters
are not the only thing that made this book good though, the family
plantation, Whispering Willows is described in such detail that the
reader will feel like it is their home too. The family pride is
overwhelming at times making the reader sympathize with the family’s
need to save their home.
CHARMED
PASSAGE is a fantastic book that you won’t be able to put down! And
don’t miss book 2: DESTINED PASSAGE.
