When Sean
O’Callahan is sent to war he keeps in touch with Eve Carmichael through
the mail. The letters start off innocent enough, just something from
home to keep him going. Then they get progressively more suggestive
until they are both starving for one another. As Eve’s thirty-fifth
birthday approaches and she hasn’t heard from Sean in weeks, she can’t
help but be sick with worry about him. No matter how much she tries to
tell herself to go with her friends to a male review and find a flesh
and blood man to satiate the needs that Sean’s letters have created she
can’t get the hunky soldier out of her head.
MALE CALL
is a great representation of long distance love and how much easier it
is to express your feelings without inhibition when you aren’t face to
face with the other person. The author has done a brilliant job of
creating sparks between two people who aren’t even physically together
throughout most of the story. Don’t let that fool you though; there is
enough heat between Sean and Eve to turn their letters into ashes!
The author has
almost written a book inside a book. The entire story is based on the
correspondence between Sean and Eve and the mental pictures they attempt
to create for themselves, as the author tries in turn to have the reader
picture Sean and Eve. Somewhat genius in this reviewer’s opinion!
Ms. Agnew is a
great author and MALE CALL is a great book!
