Riley Jenson is a hybrid of werewolf and vampire.  She is also a guardian whose job is to protect humans from the supernatural races.  Riley and her brother were thrown out of their pack but her family’s alpha male demands that she help find his missing granddaughter. It is a difficult mission as if she fails, her mother will die.  And if that wasn’t enough, her love life is not going so well either as her lover wants her give up her job and concentrate on being with him.  With all this coming at her, there is a serial killer loose and Riley must track him down too! 

EMBRACED BY DARKNESS is the fifth book in this series featuring Riley Jenson.  Riley is a kick-ass heroine.  Although she is part werewolf and vampire, Riley comes across as a very normal woman.  She is juggling the different parts of her life and trying to make it work.  Her lover, Kellen wants to take care of her but Riley doesn’t need to be taken care off.  She is woman who can handle what is thrown at her and then take on even more.   

Told in the first person, Riley tells her story and it is an extremely entertaining one.  There is never a dull moment and it is action-filled. There is also plenty of erotic action which doesn’t feel out of place within the story line.  It is a complex story line that will mesmerize the reader and it does help if you have read the previous books.  But if you haven’t, don’t let it stop you from picking this one up!

Ms. Arthur continues to develop and expand Riley’s character and her world.  It is a world that will enthrall readers and for those new to the series, have them running back to the bookstore for her backlist.
