THE HUNTRESS
continues the saga in The Dark Queen series. This installment deals
with Martin le Loup and his daughter, Megaera (Meg). In an earlier
book, Martin had conceived a child with Cassandra Lascelles who was
later killed. Cassandra tried to bring discord to the lands and install
her child on the Medici throne. Her plans were foiled but there are
rumblings of disturbances in the lands again. Catriona (Cat) O’Hanlon
is sent by the Lady of Faire Isle to bring Meg back to the Isle for her
protection. The coven of the Silver Rose wants Meg as she has knowledge
of the “Book of Shadows” and she may be her mother’s daughter after all.
Once again, Ms.
Carroll introduces us to some very strong characters. Cat is a superb
heroine. She is loyal and takes her responsibilities seriously. Her
mission to get Meg back to the Isle but she finds herself attracted to
Martin. Martin has grown and mature. He has made a new life for
himself and his daughter in England. Martin wants a normal existence
for Meg and refuses to go back with Cat. His relationship with his
daughter is very close and the reader can see what a good father he has
been. Martin and Cat’s relationship grows over time and they do have
chemistry together. Almost as important as the lead couple, Meg is a
little dynamite and this reader can’t wait to see her as an adult.
THE HUNTRESS
is the fourth book and it is just as good as the earlier ones. Ms.
Carroll does a fabulous job of telling her story with just the right
amount of romance, passion and mysticism. This can be read as a stand
alone book but you will want the previous ones as it gives you more of
the back story.
