Romantic Suspense

Elizabeth MacAllister is a talented writer who has written a best seller and has found herself considered a member of ‘The Fabulous Four’.  She and the three other members are all on their way to a resort in Canada for a romance writer’s convention.  Liz isn’t sure she wants to attend, but her publisher, Wingate Publications has coerced her into attending.  What none of the writers expect is a blizzard to interrupt some of the other guests from arriving, and the workshops to be cancelled.  Stuck in the snow with other writers Liz finds herself in the middle of a murder scene, and fighting not only for her life, but fighting to prove her innocence.

When Liz finds her ex-husband, a famous concert pianist using a fake name and playing in the cocktail lounge she is shocked.  She finds herself drawn to him and questioning their past – and their future.

Janis Susan May is a talented writer with experience and it shows in her tale of love and intrigue.  One of the original founders of the Romance Writers of America, she has found herself in the publishing world for many years.  Her experiences in conventions and in meeting women who attend romance conferences make this tale a realistic feeling novel – it also makes this reviewer grateful it is fiction and not reality.

Liz is a likeable woman who is down to earth.  Bernie, the founder of Wingate Publications as well as the other writers are very different, making the workings of their company humorous.  Liz’s interaction with the fellow attendees will leave readers smiling with sympathy.  When she finds her ex-husband playing the piano, Liz’s reactions are stunning, and the revelations that come out during the conference will give glimpses into the inner workings of their minds.  These two main characters are filled with depth and their emotions are well written.

Published by Vintage Romances, DARK MUSIC is set in 1964 and the lodge is described beautifully to reflect not only the era, but the snow covered mountains.  Ms. May’s use of adjectives leaves little details in the minds of readers that will make her novel a hit with readers who want realistic details with twists and turns that will make readers gasp with surprise.  The villain in this novel is a real shocker – grab your copy and find out who wants the romance writers of Wingate Publications dead.
