Detective Linny
Nomar has been playing both sides of the law for years now. Being a dirty
cop is something that has weighted slightly on his conscious. After all he
loves his badge and the job. Luckily he hasn’t been asked to do anything
to drastic, look the other way in the theft department. That isn’t too
hard and no one has gotten hurt. But that all changed when he suddenly
gets a promotion to homicide. He knows something big is about to happen
and he will be called upon by the Mob to perform his brand of magic once
again. When that happens he finds himself unable to comply. He is to help
steer an investigation of a serial killer toward a handpicked fall guy who
has been set up to take the fall. It might be the fact of setting up a man
to certain death or maybe it is the new love interest in his life, fellow
homicide detective Julie McCallister. Whatever the reason, Linny had
better find a way out before it means the death of the innocent man…and
himself.
A few words of
warning: This story was a hard read for this reviewer for several reasons.
These boys that were being killed were male prostitutes, all young and
being used by the Mob. While there isn’t any male on male scenes, the
depictions and implications are plain and the language is graphic.
That being said
ANOTHER LOST
ANGEL has an
outstanding storyline. Not many books are written where our hero is a
dirty cop. But Linny is out to redeem himself and make right some of the
wrongs of his past. The reader cannot help but root for his success and
hope that he will be able to pull off the seemingly impossible. In a cast
of many, there is one who stands to help him. Detective Logan is a
wonderfully giving character that this reader had to admire. Will this
dynamic duo be able to save the day? And just how will they try to take
down an organization with long arms? Answers to questions like these can
only be found within the pages of ANOTHER LOST ANGEL. Author Steven
Mandel does a wonderful job penning characters that are both good an evil,
many that the reader will loathe and others that the reader will love.
Packed
full of action and intrigue, there is never a dull moment and will capture
the reader’s attention from the very first page and not let it go. The
language is a bit more colourful than need be, so if as a reader you don’t
the liberal use of explicatives then this might not be the book for you,
but you will be missing out on a book that is definitely worthwhile to
read.
