While diving to
explore the wreckage of the notorious Black Pearl, Brittany Cavanaugh
found an amulet that will soon change her life forever.
Brittany and her
fiancé Ian, who are oceanographers, were exploring the remains of the
Titanic when the mysterious amulet that Brittany always wears suddenly
transported them back in time to the point just before the Titanic
struck the famed iceberg that would sink her. That in itself would have
been exhausting enough but the amulet sees the need to transport
Brittany back even further. This time she is thrown into the middle of
a white slavery auction where she may be the next one on the block if
she isn’t careful. She also meets the famed captain of the Black Pearl,
Jacque Devereaux, and realizes that the pirate is much more captivating
than the people running the slavery operation. Now, Brittany must
battle her feelings for Devereaux and her desperation to find her
missing fiancé Ian.
This is the
second installment of the “Passage” time travel romance saga and to some
extent picks up where book one left off as many of the main characters
are present in DESTINED PASSAGE as well.
This reviewer is
again amazed at the well-developed characters of these books.
Brittany’s struggle with her mixed emotions about three different men
and being suddenly thrust into a time period in which she doesn’t belong
make for a lot of intrigue. Jacques Devereaux is a wonderful
counterpart for Brittany because he shows none of the restraint she is
so determined to hold on to. The Gentry family that Brittany finds
herself depending on is also an interesting assortment of proper (and
some not so proper) southern gentlemen. All the characters give this
book a very well rounded feel and don’t make the reader feel as though
they’ve missed much of the history surrounding them.
DESTINED
PASSAGE is a wonderful read but beware, once you’ve finished this
book you won’t want to wait to get a hold of DOOMED PASSAGE, book
three in the saga!
