Vivie Field, the
daughter of Lord Lance and Morgan Dellafield is working incognito in a
hospital. She doesn’t want any kind of special treatment because of her
grandparents’ support of the children’s ward. Dr. Alec Stratton can’t
believe Vivie is using her Druid medicines in the hospital. He’s a
cold, hard disciplinarian, and very much attracted to the pretty nurse.
Although he cannot believe in her powers, he is nonetheless captivated
by her beauty. He warns her off, telling her he is looking for a rich
wife who can further his medical career. When he later finds out who
Vivie really is, he is very upset and blames her. Vivie’s only comfort
is another doctor, who is also a Druidic bard. Together they open their
own clinic and the doctor falls in love with her. Then her very life is
in danger and Dr. Stratton has a very difficult decision to make.
This is the
second book in the Garland of Druids series. The year is 1919,
London, England. Again, Ms. Steward paints a rich historical picture,
and again, she gives her readers a very likable heroine who is strong,
confident and somewhat stubborn. This reviewer was getting rather
frustrated with the hero in this story. Although he is very attracted
to the heroine, he refuses to pursue her, thinking more of his career
than of love. This reviewer felt like slapping him up the head a few
times while reading. But, he does redeem himself in the end, and yes,
some groveling is in order. Ms. Stewart has also added her knowledge of
Druidry into the story and the reader will learn something about plants
and their attributes. This reviewer found this story quite
fascinating. This reviewer hopes that Ms. Stewart will give Dr. Stephan
Lovernios his own story some time soon.
