Every man, woman
and child in Athymar, one of the Nine Known Lands passed out at the same
time and when they awoke, each had been imbued with a measure of magical
power. Some more, some less. A band of people form to go to Heart’s
Wound to investigate what has happened, and if normalcy can be restored.
Tarian Ambrus, a former warrior, his son Phelan, the Esylken warrior Ashur
Dal, the swordswoman Danya and the wizard Cynric are on a quest where they
meet some mighty strange creatures and find out that apparently the Gods
destroyed each other and their powers were scattered amongst the human
citizens of Athymar. Some folks, like Tarian’s wife have changed so much
that she is now an enemy, some are using their new found powers for the
good of the people, and some are exploiting and trying to take over the
known world. At Heart’s Wound, our brave heroes find all the answers they
need and a few surprises.
This reviewer had
unfortunately not read the first book of the Godfire, so it took a little
while to get to know the characters and plot. It seems this one carries
on where the last one left off and everyone already has their powers and
are getting used to them. Mr Waggoner has written a great story with
really wonderful characters. Multi-dimensional, the reader is able to
relate to each one. In such an epic kind of fantasy, this reviewer feels
it is imperative to have good, strong characters, both evil and good, and
Mr. Waggoner has not disappointed. Their journey spans over a wide
variety of terrain and they meet an even wider variety of people and
creatures. Mr. Waggoner writes with great imagination, drawing the
reader into each situation. Full of adventure and action, this story was
an exciting read and this reviewer spent a few wonderful hours reading
it. Lovers of the fantasy genre should pick up this series for sure.
