56 years have
passed after the launch of the EASS Galileo. Many people have written her
off as lost and the mission failed. But, there right before the Director
General of the European Space Agency sits three survivors Theodore Harker,
Emily Collins, and Jared Ramirez. Here sits all the information on what
happened to them all this time, and why they have not aged one day over
all this time. Only they know what happened to the EASS Galileo and what
happened to the rest of her crew.
SPINDRIFT is
a classic tale of Earth’s first space voyage after seeing signs of
intelligent life. They launch their first spacecraft the EASS Galileo
after spotting what could be alien life with the old and defunct SETI
program. The captain seems to be a puppet with other people pulling his
strings. The crew thinks he is incompetent in his job. Secrets and lies
are why some people are on board the ship. Why do only three survive and
return back to earth 56 years after they left? Why don’t they look a day
older? What did they see? What happened to the rest of the crew? Who is
really to blame for the ship disappearing? Did they even make first
contact?
This is set in the
same world as Coyote Trilogy, however the reader shouldn’t feel that they
have to read the trilogy as SPINDRIFT is a stand-alone book. If you
want a great and wonderful introduction in to the Coyote Trilogy this
reviewer highly recommends getting this book and plan out a weekend to
read it for you will not want to set it down.
If you are a Sci-Fi
lover of Robert A
Heinlein or Isaac Asimov then add Allen Steele to your list. He talks
about human life, of the fear and excitement of first contact, of lovers
living on board ship where they have to keep it secret, and an felon
convicted of mass murder who comes to grips with what he did.
This reviewer gives
it four and a half hearts and cannot wait to see if there is anything more
out of this Coyote World he plays in.
