When artist Emma
Beck visits the small town of Benina to find out more about her birth
mother, she discovers the house that has been haunting her dreams since
she was five years old. She immediately purchases the house and hires
contractor Mike Ruhl to make it livable again. When she finally meets
Mike, besides feeling as though she has always known him, Emma discovers
that he is the man that she has been painting for years. And people
suddenly dying when she starts to ask questions about the past. Who or
what has been directing her steps from childhood, and who is killing
people to keep Emma from finding out the answers to her questions about
her parents?
NIGHT ECHOES
by Holly Lisle is a first class romantic suspense with a strong touch of
the paranormal. The entire tone is so eerie that this reviewer recommends
only reading on a bright sunny day. Emma, upon the death of her adopted
parents, decides to research her birth parents just to discover the house
and Mike. As unlikely events keep occurring she starts to question both
her sanity and her attraction to Mike, though the only way to survive is
to learn to trust him. Mike is an all around good guy, the boy next door
type. He has never really let a woman get close to him even though he has
been married before. However, there is no way to control his attraction
to Emma and possibly no way to protect her from the events that are
occurring.
This reviewer has
been a fan of Ms. Lisle since the beginning when her genre of choice was
fantasy, and I really have to say that Ms. Lisle has definitely found her
niche in romantic suspense. If you are looking for a book to keep you up
at night then look no further than any of Ms. Lisle’s offerings.
