In Your Planet
or Mine? Jared Jasper had helped in a bluff to save Earth. His sister
Janna and the childhood friend Cavin, an alien who came to save her and
the world she lived in were successful in coming up with a plan to buy
time.
The Jaspers are
California’s first family. Though Jared didn’t follow the tradition of
going into political office, he has a strong sense of duty. His is a
National Guard career flying fighter aircraft coupled with success in
commercial real estate.
When an early
morning Starbuck’s run results in finding the alien ship of the failed
assassin who had been sent to kill Cavin, Jared’s curiosity leads him to
explore. He inadvertently activates the viewer screen and finds himself
facing a buff, beautiful and very angry woman. His cocky attitude and
trash talk as well as his introduction by his fighter pilot call sign as
“The Prince” leads to some unexpected events and a shocking sacrifice.
The Coalition is in
a desperate war against the Drakken Hoard. Keira, the Queen and a living
goddess, is figurehead to the former. She was thrust into her position
upon the tragic death of her family when she was just 6 years old. The
steady flow of prospective consorts has crossed her path since she came of
age but all has come to naught. A particular incident in which one of the
men was forcing his attentions upon her ended abruptly when Keira
displayed her prowess with a plasma sword. Needless to say this has given
her quite a fearsome reputation.
With the need to
form a strong alliance in order to defeat the Hoard, it is determined that
marriage between the Queen and the Prince of Earth is the best means to an
end.
This is the
wonderful second installment of Ms Grant’s Otherworldly Men series.
Readers will be swept away into this fast-paced intergalactic intrigue,
suspense and spicy romance with a good helping of humor.
We are introduced
to a heroine that at first meeting we are not very keen on, but with
growing acquaintance we find a warm but fragile woman. Her personal
history has been rooted much in tragedy and isolation. Her shield and
bane has been distance from those around her and intentional ignorance to
most of the political issues. There is however, reason enough for those
actions that we cannot help but to grow sympathetic to her.
It is very easy to
fall in love with the laid back, sushi loving, determined bachelor of a
hero. Jared’s delicate handling of the volatile Keira is moving for his
determination to make a true marriage of their situation. Likewise, his
innate understanding that his wife’s reactions are not to be read as
surface issues has him gently delving and supporting her in ways that
smack of respect and tenderness.
Danger from those
who don’t want Jared’s presence makes for some excitement as
assassinations are attempted. This is where the background of the
character is given free play. It is always a delight when a story is so
well-crafted to make such information fun when we learn about it and
relevant as we continue reading.
The world is
described in plenty of detail for us to imagine the setting of all that
happens. One might only have wished for more information on the belief in
the living goddess and further explanations behind the religion.
Good against evil,
love in the face of danger and vulnerability, a sexy hero and a weapon
wielding heroine…really, who could ask for anything more?
