IN THE HEART OF THE OUTBACK is a beautiful story of two sad people who slowly rise above the past and look to the future. A car crash leaves Bryne Drummond without a wife and a mother for his child, and Fiona McLaren has lost her brother. Their grief divides them instead of pulling them together.

Bryne begins to put his life back together again, with the help of his friends. The past returns back to haunt him when Fiona comes back to Gundawarra to sort out her brother’s legacy, the ranch next door.  Sparks fly and passion ignites, but Bryne fears the feelings Fiona invokes deep in his heart and the way Riley his daughter loves her too.

IN THE HEART OF THE OUTBACK is a very emotional tale that covers many of the feelings that many readers will experience themselves. Secrets and family ties come into the open as the story unfolds. Life in the outback of Australia described in a way that brings the hardship and beauty of the area to the reader. The main characters are easy to identify with as they battle their emotions, conflicts, and passions against the unforgiving backdrop that nature has wrought.

The theme is consistent and the action is easy to follow with clear dialogue. The depth of emotion is deep with enough angst and humor to keep the reader turning the pages for more. The opening chapter was a haunting experience with emotions on a knife’s edge. The ending was beautiful and gave a clear, well-rounded, and refreshing example of how it should be done.
