Lilly Ann White, a
private investigator, is just trying to catch a cheating husband.
Instead, she ends up with a new cat, and old lover and head trauma.
After having taken
pictures outside a seedy motel as proof of infidelity for a divorce case
Lilly thinks the job is done. Then the lawyer who hired her is killed and
someone is threatening to do the same to Lilly. Her cousin Vito is of no
help so Lilly decides she has to call the police. Much to her dismay the
detective she gets is none other than her old partner and ex-lover, Devin
Torrington. As more people involved in the case begin to turn up dead and
the threats against Lilly continue, Devin becomes more protective. While
the heat to solve the mystery rises, so does the heat between Devin and
Lilly.
From the first time
Lilly meets her new partner, Shotgun the cat, until the last glimpse of
cousin Vito’s neon boxers showing above his jeans, there are a lot of
great peripheral characters in the book that contribute to the humorous
element of the story. Most notable of those characters is Lilly’s mother
and cousin Vito, seeing the dynamics in Lilly’s family gives the reader a
better understanding of what makes Lilly tick. Ms. Romano did a wonderful
job with the suspense element to the story making the reader try to figure
out which character could have a score to settle with Lilly as well as
wondering what the score is. The steady pace of the story and the sexual
tension between Devin and Lilly make this book hard to put down.
This reviewer
recommends FRISK AND MISS for a great read and will be watching for
more from Ms. Romano.
