Essie
has passed her 30th birthday. She has always dreamed of a home
of her own, complete with husband and children. While always treated with
respect, she isn’t the ideal woman; riding her bike, catching snakes, and
other outdoorsy type activities. These things many men don’t find
attractive in a woman. And it seems to her that God just hasn’t had the
time to provide her with a man who would appreciate her uniqueness. Maybe
it is time she takes matters into her own hands to find herself a husband.
COURTING
TROUBLE
is a charming tale set in 1894 when women just didn’t do the things that
Essie enjoys. Her character is sweet, endearing, and the reader will
embrace her and take her into their heart. This reader felt so much
sympathy and empathy for Essie.
A cast of
interesting and quite colourful characters keep the reader guessing just
what man is right for Essie. The young but stodgy widowed storekeeper, the
handsome and charming drifter, or the youthful friend returned home
pastor. Perhaps Essie’s dream will finally be realized, or maybe time will
change her dream into something else. This reader kept hoping that someone
would come along and sweep Essie off of her feet.
This reader
enjoyed COURTING TROUBLE however something seemed missing. Not able
to put a finger to what it is, this reviewer still recommends this tale.
COURTING TROUBLE is a light-hearted read that has a wonderful
message of self-love and forgiveness. Author Deeanne Gist has a talent for
blending humour into Essie’s situation that gives COURTING TROUBLE
a unique quality.
Enjoy!
