A recent development has made Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Palmer heir to the office of the Pythia and she isn’t too sure that she really wants to accept.  Normally she would have had years of training rather than having this power dumped into her lap.  Now every supernatural around is out to acquire her and Myra, the former Initiate gone bad, is out to kill her.  And to top it off, Cassie discovers that Mircea, a vampire master, has placed a geis on her to protect her virginity from everyone but himself.  Could things get any worse? 

CLAIMED BY SHADOW by Karen Chance is a very enjoyable addition to the Urban Fantasy genre.  Cassie starts out as a young woman who allows herself to be controlled by circumstances throughout the book however she begins to grow into a force to be reckoned with.  This reviewer is looking forward to the next book in this series to watch her continue growing.   

This reviewer did have one small issue with this book as she didn’t read the first book, Touch the Dark.   In the first chapter, there was a conversation that was relating to events that happened in that book.  If the reader hasn’t read it then there is apt to be some confusion.  However if you push through that conversation CLAIMED BY SHADOW is a truly enjoyable book.
