WITCH FAITH,
a fantasy with some science fiction elements is a follow on book to WITCH
HONOUR.
Survivors of a war,
the friends are now truly magical beings. Leenan is still a dragon and
Magda, who was originally from a spaceship, now combines her medical
skills with her magical abilities. Tephee has become very powerful and
able to do more than has ever been seen before.
The world is a
strange place, where confusion reigns, and two different types of religion
make it hard for the citizens. The witch friends and an ‘Arc’ priest are
sent to learn about another vessel that has landed. The lack of proper
decisions when the new spaceship landed has caused a rift between the crew
and the main societies living on the planet. Cadogan Ho, who was once a
refugee, is sent as an escort and finds himself bonding with the witches
and love begins to blossom. The journey is eventful and becomes dangerous
as they near the island of Marin Kuta.
This is a powerful
fantasy with violence and dark tones, mixed into some science fiction
elements. The author has built an intricate world, with its mix of
religious beliefs and culture clashes, in a feudal system that is oddly
unbalanced. The characters are human, and a unique blend with believable
magic. The conflicts they all faced were never confusing and woven in
well. The dragons were an interesting addition adding another layer to the
story. The plot flows well and is consistent, with good grammar and
interesting dialogue. The love interest is woven into the main story, with
easy to follow actions. A clear ending that tied all the main conflicts,
leaving room for more adventures in the future.
Ms. Harris has
written an interesting series, with characters the reader can empathize
with. Although this book stands alone, it would be better to read WITCH
HONOUR to understand the way of this world.
