Contemporary Romance

Set in the New South Wales Outback; where Jake Connors is an Outback man, with a darkness that dwells inside him that he cannot seem to dispel. Believing he does not deserve to have happiness again is slowly destroying him. What nobody knows is what he is hiding from or where he has come from. It is obvious that Jake is used to the Outback life and has a love of horses.

Laila Robbins sees the brooding Jake as a man she is drawn to, a moth to his flame. He is like no other man she has encountered, as he does not seem interested in the fact her family is rich and what he can get out of them. While drawn to comfort him, Laila gives him her body and her heart, only to have the gesture thrown back.

Jake is a man who desires, but is too afraid of his inner demons to love again. Laila is a woman, hurt and angry when she is rejected and humiliated, but will not accept second best.  They fight against their demons and when Laila becomes pregnant and refuses Jake’s help, he begins to understand what he must do. Jake and Laila need a miracle, to let them accept love and let go of their pasts.

The release of inner fears and facing your demons is the feeling while reading this emotion filled book, which brought tears to this reviewer’s eyes. It is not very often that books of this caliber are found in category romance. The word count is often too small to fully flesh out the plot, and for the reader to get to know the characters well. Ms. James has written a book with heart in OUTBACK BABY MIRACLE, a book that is memorable. It brings to life the fact that love is alive and well despite the harsh reality of the world around us.

The conflict was viable and very understandable, as the plot unfolded. The secondary characters are well drawn, never intrusive and relevant to the story. The interesting back story answers many questions and the dark brooding hero is a man of such integrity, most women will take him into their hearts. The outback is often harsh and unforgiving, but also a place of unusual beauty. The contrasts are brought to life as the sensuality of the love blossoming in the harsh environment is told, as a storm rages across the land. It is a tale that brings to life a love that will surely endure, despite the stony ground it grew on.
