When stuntwoman
Dawn Madison received a call that her father Frank has gone missing, she
rushes home of Hollywood. Once there she discovers that he had been
working for Limpet and Associates, a paranormal Private Investigation
agency and to find Frank she will also need to work with him. And that is
just the beginning of the weird…
With NIGHT
RISING by Ms. Green, be prepared to visit the underside of the town
where nothing is as it seems. Start with hard edged tone, mix in some
unresolved childhood issues, a heroine that could easily be mistaken for a
villain, creatures that won’t stand up to the light of day and you have a
first rate urban fantasy.
Ms. Green has done
a fabulous job of developing our twisted heroine. Dawn has serious issues
with her dead movie star mother. She has never felt that she measured up
in terms of beauty or class so instead she tries to have sex with every
good looking man she comes across. She also has real issues with anyone
trying to get close to her emotionally which is why she feels so guilty
about her father going missing as she has always held him away from her.
How many of us readers have pushed ourselves to do good because of guilt?
It is very easy to find a little bit of ourselves in Dawn. Dawn’s
co-workers, Kiko and Breisi, are just as well written and are easier to
empathize with as they do not have as many personal issues.
The plot itself is
rich and dark. Not a book to be reading at night for the faint of heart.
The ending, while satisfying, will also leave the reader waiting
impatiently for the next book.
This reviewer also
wants to remark on Ms. Green’s descriptions. She has an unusual way of
describing common place scenes which allows the reader to view everything
in a new light. At times, the readers will feel that they are watching a
movie. Very unique gift.
This reviewer
highly recommends NIGHT RISING to any lovers of Urban Fantasy. Ms.
Green is a fresh new voice in this genre that this reviewer will be
watching for. Rush out and get your copy today!
