Urban Fantasy

A killer is loose in this fantasy, with seduction, erotic love scenes and violence, not a tale for the faint hearted, but a good story.

Stuntwoman Dawn Madison finds herself involved in the dark underbelly of Hollywood. She has a lot of issues after being brought up by her father, Frank, when her mother died at a young age. Always compared to the famous movie star and never quite matching up, she is a girl with attitude. When her dad goes missing as do many of the stars, she joins a private PI company to help find them. The boss is never seen and this feels strange, but he still manages to touch her. Along with her side kicks, Kiko and Breisi, Dawn fights strange vampires with unseen before skills. They all fight to stay alive, as the underground society begins to infiltrate into the normal world. Some are devious and others attractive and it is hard to know which one to kill until it is almost too late, so Breisi invents some deadly weapons and lotions to help.

Vampires are a different breed from usual in NIGHT RISING but still as deadly as ever. The plot has many twists and turns as the search for Frank takes the trio into danger. The action flows fast and furious, but it has a good rhythm and plot to draw the reader on. There are many fascinating surprises as the story unfolds, with a humorous edge that lifts the violence and deadly deeds to a different level. There is a touch of sci-fi in the way some vampires have been developed, crossing this book into yet another realm.

The tone is dark with some unique ideas, and sexual fantasies that might not be to some people’s liking. Ms. Green’s fertile imagination has been given free reign in this first of a series book. The dialogue tone and style was matched to the characters and helped to keep the book moving forward
