Soraya aka Verity Ashton is a highly prized mistress. She has been wanted by many men but Justin Kinmurrie, Duke of Kylemore won the honor of being her protector. Unknown to the Duke, Soraya plans to leave him but his proposal of marriage surprises her. Verity makes her escape in hopes of living a normal life without the reputation that stains Soraya. CLAIMING THE COURTESAN is a highly emotional romance. The two protagonists have had life altering moments. It is a rich and highly sensual story that pulls the reader in from the first page. Ms. Campbell gives us a man who projects a façade to the world. His austere and reserve persona keeps the world at bay. However, the reader recognizes that there is a warm human being contained within. His passionate nature is slowly unfurled as the story progresses. It is not hard to believe that this is a man worth loving and fighting for. Verity is a strong heroine and quite a nice match for Justin. Life has forced her into her situation and she is strong enough to handle whatever else may fall on her plate. She is an intelligent woman who acknowledges her past and has fond memories of her previous protectors. This reader liked the fact that she wasn’t groveling about her situation and her previous lovers. She enters her arrangement with Justin with eyes wide open. Unfortunately she underestimates his level of involvement with her. Justin and Verity will capture the reader’s imagination as their relationship is put to the test.

Ms. Campbell takes the reader on a trip that will tear at the heartstrings. The emotions expressed by the lead couple feels real and honest. The level of eroticism fits the storyline. CLAIMING THE COURTESAN is Ms. Campbell’s debut book but surely will be the first of many to come!
