When Private
Investigator Dare Lancaster leads members of the Temple of the Light right
to Lyra Collin’s doorstep, he feels responsible and is determined to
protect her. The only problem is that Lyra has learned not to trust
anyone and does not want or feel that she needs his protection. Besides
there is something about Dare that draws her and she knows better then to
get close to any man. But just maybe, it is time to learn to trust again
and reclaim her life.
CHOSEN PREY
by Ms. McCray is non-stop action. Lyra’s life has not been her own since
her mother joined a cult and the cult leader Neal Barker decided to claim
Lyra as soon as she turned 18. Lyra however escaped before that could
occur and has been in hiding ever since. Now Neal has found her again and
will use any means necessary to capture and control Lyra.
Lyra is an
interesting character. She, in many ways, reminded this reviewer of
abused women that she has known. Lyra is strong and resourceful yet she
questions herself and is scared of getting too close to anyone, especially
after her mother abandoned her to Neal’s tender ministrations. The one
thing that did not ring quite true for this reader is how quickly she
offered up her virginity to Dare.
Dare is a true
alpha male. He instinctively protects those weaker than himself and those
he cares for yet he does not try to bully them, at least not very often.
He does carry a lot of baggage from the past yet he does not let it get in
the way of caring for Lyra. He is a hero to make any reader sigh with
satisfaction especially during some of the spicier yet tender moments.
Ms. McCray’s trademark touch is seen in the way she interweaves and spices
up the emotional scenes with enough heat to cause the reader to reach for
the ice cubes.
