Under the rule
of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public
lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little
to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I
wish that I was an average citizen.
After being jarred
awake at 3 am, Mercedes ‘Mercy’ Thompson agrees to help out her friend
Stephen, one of the local vampires, by pretending to be his pet coyote
when he pays a visit on an impolite vampire. However this impolite
vampire also just happens to be a sorcerer who takes control of Stephen
for a short time and kills a woman in front of Mercy. And then everything
goes downhill from there.
Lovers of the Urban
Fantasy genre rejoice! Ms Briggs, author of BLOOD BOUND, has
created a dazzling new world peopled with humans, vampires, werewolves,
the fae and one lone walker who just happens to be Mercy. She has done
just a fantastic job of interweaving the paranormal with the mundane that
this reviewer was easily able to recognize the setting, which just
happened to be her hometown of the Tri Cities.
Mercy is a new kind
of heroine who is not blessed with super strength or super healing. As a
walker, she has the ability to change into a coyote and has some
resistance to vampire magic. Mercy’s true strength is her loyalty to her
friends, and the love and loyalty that her friends bear towards her. She
is just such a nice person that this reviewer wishes that it was possible
to have Mercy as a friend.
BLOOD BOUND
is the second book in the series however one does not need to read Moon
Called first to be able to follow the story. BLOOD BOUND is
very capable of standing all on its own. However, this reviewer does
suggest that you do simply because both books are just that good.
This reviewer
highly recommends BLOOD BOUND to any readers who enjoy paranormal
suspense and urban fantasy. You are sure to enraptured with Ms. Briggs’
writing style. Get your copy today!
