Living in small
town has its advantages; however, it has an ugly side too. Tiffany is a
single mom who lives with her mother and works in the big city. All the
residents of the small town she lives in think her daughter was the result
of Tiffany slutting around in the big city and that she is living with her
mother so that she does not have to support herself or her daughter. Only
Tiffany and her mother know the whole truth.
When Tiffany is hit
by a car one day, a handsome man comes to her aid and makes it clear to
Tiffany that he wants to date her and get to know her better. Tiffany is
quite reluctant to let any man into her life for fear that if he knew all
her secrets he would want nothing to do with her. Marcus turns out to
have a few secrets of his own!
This is a sweet
book with a great plot: judge not lest ye be judged. The glass house
adage is recurrent during conversations in the story. Tiffany is
portrayed as an extremely proud and private woman and it is very admirable
that she manages to go all those years without ever trying to correct all
the nosy busybodies in her hometown because she does not feel that she
needs to defend herself. Tiffany’s mother adds insight to the story as
the reader can sense all of her emotions about Tiffany and her life; she
is also the model for which Tiffany’s determination has come from.
PRECONCEIVED
NOTIONS is a wonderful read;
however, it would have received a higher rating if Ms. Schlegl had told
more of Marcus’ past. The obvious main character is Tiffany yet a few
hints of how Marcus arrived and how he might have secrets left this
reviewer feeling robbed of potentially interesting details.
