Cornelia Brown
manages a coffee shop, and when Martin Grace enters, her life is changed
forever. Charming, debonair, the image of Cary Grant, Cornelia is swept
off her feet. Cornelia is forever comparing her life to classic movie
scenes. On the other side of town, Clare Hobbes is learning to fend for
herself as her mother becomes increasingly unstable. She finally has a
breakdown and disappears. Clare gets the courage from famous orphans to
search for her father and when the two of them show up in Cornelia’s cafe,
Cornelia and Clare form a deep bond. Now Cornelia needs to help Clare
find her mother, bond with her father and together they must face
difficult choices and learn that knowing what you love and why is one of
the most important things in life.
If this reviewer
could only use a few words to critique this book with, then she could only
say...you have got to read it! This is Maria de los Santos’ debut book
and it is touching, warm-hearted, passionate, elegant and all the lovely
adjectives you can think of. Easy to read, the reader will be rooting and
cheering for its characters and definitely, as this reviewer did, reach
for a whole box of tissues. It’s a story about the responsibility of
love, about finding love where you least expect it and it is witty, sassy
and powerful. It’s a modern day fairy tale, including charming princes
and a happily ever after ending. It’s a story with lots of human wisdom
in it. This reviewer not only gives it a five rating, but a resounding
five!
