Daphne Urban is a vampire.  The government knows and gave her an ultimatum.  Spy for the United States or get a stake through the heart.  Daphne is not ready to give up her life, so she and her team work for Team Darkwing.  Now, since a recent breakup, Daphne is happy to throw herself into her work.  The assignment this time is to find out who “Gage” is and stop him from assassinating a certain presidential candidate.  During this mission however, she gets to meet Tallmadge who runs a club for vampires and she is drawn back into the life she once rejected.  Someone is after her dog and numerous attempts are made to kidnap it and she’s trying to get rid of her feelings for a certain vampire and is highly attracted to Fitz, who, even after he saw her transform, still wants her with a passion. 

After reading this story, this reviewer will be hunting down the first two titles right away to add them to her keeper shelf.  This story starts out exciting, continues to be exciting and ends with excitement.  Savannah Russe keeps her reader on the edge of her seat with characters that leap off the pages and a plot that leaves the reader breathless.  The heroine, Daphne, is sassy, sexy, intelligent and highly entertaining.  The reader will care for her and will be cheering her on.  Ms. Russe has added a touch of darkness into this story, with some of her vampires showing the darker side of their nature, but there are lots of lighter moments that make this a well rounded read.  This is supernatural suspense at its best and Ms. Russe shows her readers that there is more than one way to tell a vampire tale.
