When the theft of a
very important formula is discovered at
Everlast Pharmaceuticals biochemist
Carter
Rawlins
goes undercover to discover who took it. His investigation takes him to a
small town in Colorado where a number of surprises await him.
Rebecca Jordan is not happy to
see Carter in Colorado. Having met him before, she thinks him arrogant and
dislikes him immensely. But soon finds herself forced to work closely with
him. Maybe Carter can change her opinion of him as he sleuths out the
mystery that brought him to Colorado to begin with.
LETHAL INTENT is the second book about the Rawlins clan. “Now I Promise” which is now being reissued under
the name “Deadly Connection” is a tale about Carter’s brother Cole, however LETHAL INTENT is a
stand-alone book that delves into the life of Carter. Carter is a man that is hard to get to know and it took
this reader a bit to decide if she liked him or not. He is intelligent and handsome, but doesn’t come across
at first as a very nice person. However, this reviewer eventually found Carter to be a charming and delightful
character.
The character of Rebecca Jordan was in this reviewer’s opinion the best part of the book. She makes it
known early one her dislike of Carter, but like this reader, Carter grows on Rebecca as well. She is a
well-developed character that gives credibility to this story and is what kept this reader turning the pages,
along with secondary cast of characters that the reader will love to hate. This reader couldn’t wait to find
out why they do what they do.
This reviewer had a couple of issues with this tale. Carter just didn’t come across as believable and the
storyline as credible. If the formula for an important drug was stolen from a drug manufacturer why would
they send a chemist in to play detective? Why not at the very least a private detective agency or their own
security company if not the police? Carter is not a professionally trained detective. This thought was in the
forethought while reading LETHAL INTENT and kept the book from being believable.
