Kate Hetherington
is a hopeless romantic, who works as a designer on a TV Makeover show. She
has dedicated her life to finding Mr. Right, that knight in shining amour
most seek but never find. She’s tried online, speed and almost every other
type of dating and found it was a waste of time. Surfing the net she sees
THE HOPELESS ROMANTIC’S HANDBOOK on eBay and buys it. She finds the
advice seems to work when Joe Rogers an actor from the US begins to date
her. Her best friends Sal and Tom aren’t so impressed, but she ignores
their advice.
As the romance
heats up her job begins to slide into oblivion, as her knight begins
acting oddly and taking an interest in somebody else.
The book goes in
the refuse bin as Kate’s dream crumbles. Tom becomes a shoulder to cry on,
and begins to worry about his best friend.
The author has spun
a delightful tale of thwarted and slightly twisted love affairs. The plot
is a quaint mix of funny and sad as the hapless Kate learns that what you
see isn’t always what you get in the game of love. All the characters are
entertaining, quirky and seem to have many fantastically funny hang-ups
about relationships. Action packed as this warts and all tale unfolds,
with so many ups and downs it keeps the reader turning pages. The main
hero doesn’t come into his own for a while, but this adds to the pathos
and fun in the story. Set in contemporary London with the contrast of a
bickering married couple, womanizer Tom and seeking true romance Kate. The
dialogue is snappy and very sharp, keeping the story in motion. The
romance handbooks messages are skillfully woven through plot. The mood was
ever changing and the tone was really consistent throughout.
