This twisted take
on Little Red Riding Hood finds red driving a candy-apple red convertible
on her way to granny’s house to deliver a basket of candy kisses. Red’s
mother has instructed her not to eat any of the candy but she decides that
one piece will not hurt anything. For each flavor of candy she eats,
there is a different unfamiliar woman to take her out of her car and into
a world of fetishes. Even after learning that she has no control over the
events once she consumes a piece of the forbidden candy, Red continues to
try the different flavors until finally arriving at Grandma’s house.
The notion behind
CANDY KISSES is a wonderful one. However, the execution was
disappointing on a variety of levels. The scenes with Red and the
mysterious women she encounters after eating the candy do not seem to have
as much heat as one would expect, partially due to the fact that the
scenes appear to be rushed. Red might be in a hurry since Grandma is
waiting on her but if the reader is able to suspend disbelief in order for
the fantasy sequences to occur there could have also been a pause in time
for the events in order to give them more attention. Because of the
hurried overtone to the story, there is not enough description to get a
good mental image of the people or environment around them. For this
reviewer, that is an important element for a story to possess.
