Joel Briggs is the
son of an alcoholic father. He’s a bully, brutalized but intelligent.
When he was twelve years old, Joel and his two friends wander down a creek
in rural Tennessee. While they are playing, they suddenly realise that
their surroundings have changed. Their houses have disappeared and
nothing is as it was. They’ve taken a trip into the early 1800’s and run
afoul of the infamous Wesley Pike. They soon learn that the wild west is
not the romantic place they thought of as shown in the movies and books of
their time. They need every ounce of cunning to survive the horrors of
Wesley Pike and his gang. Joel survives the adventure and makes it back
to the present, transformed from an angry bully into a compassionate
leader.
Three authors have
collaborated to write an exciting adventure that will certainly hold their
readers captive. The Wild West comes to all it’s gory life in this
compelling story. This is not for the faint hearted. There are no heroes
on white horses, or calvary riding in to save the day. No, in this story,
the readers will meet a gang of cut throats, a gang that indulge in all
types of depravity and where the life of a man means nothing more than a
spit in the river. This reviewer enjoyed this story immensely. It’s
real, gritty and powerful. The boy's predicament is very real and they
could get killed at any time. This is a must read. This reviewer is
looking forward to reading the second book in this exciting story.
