When word comes to
the ladies society of the Maintown church that their new circuit-riding
preacher was coming soon and was a bachelor they set themselves up to
welcome him, them and their single daughters. They decide to make him a
quilt, each eligible young lady trying to outdo each other in creating
their quilt block and therefore attracting the preacher’s interest.
Zack Hartley
certainly is green when it comes to his ministry work. Instead of praying
with the sick of his flock, he is often found out doing chores for them.
His inexperience on at the pulpit is obvious to all as he blunders and
bumbles is way through Sunday’s sermon. But Zack has a secret that just
might send the matronly women of Maintown into a tizzy.
This reviewer was
captivated by
BACHELOR’S
PUZZLE from just reading the blurb on the back of the book. And
BACHELOR’S PUZZLE did not disappoint. Author Judith Pella did a
wonderful job penning a totally believable book. What mother wouldn’t want
her daughter married to their preacher? This tale gives the reader a
sometime humorous and sometime sad look at what can happen when a group of
women set themselves up in competition for the same man’s affections.
The
characters in BACHELOR’S PUZZLE are amazing. Zack is a character
that will capture sympathy and pull the reader’s heartstrings. He starts
out trying to make the best of a bad situation, but soon the people of
Maintown capture his heart and he soon finds himself second-guessing his
intentions. This reviewer especially liked the character of Maggie. She
is a headstrong and mischievous young woman who no one takes seriously.
Her antics are often humorous and left this reader giggling.
BACHELOR’S
PUZZLE is an awesome read, one that will not disappoint. Don’t miss
out on this one. This reader thinks that Ms Pella has a winner on her
hands with this one!
