After discovering
that she has breast cancer, actress Clara McCallum opts to spend Christmas
alone in New York City working rather then telling her family. Clara is
the female lead in a movie about Jed Landry and Glenhaven, a town that
lost several of its sons in the WW II. Imagine her disbelief and
astonishment when she is transported back to 1941 while filming the scene
and meeting the real Jed Landry, who is a man that she could easily
imagine falling in love with.
IF ONLY IN MY
DREAMS by Wendy Markham is the perfect book to curl up with on a cold
winter evening. The pacing is smooth, the dialogue is realistic and the
sights and sounds are so historically accurate the reader can easily see
themselves stepping off that train with Clara. Ms. Markham deserves kudos
for her research! There is simply nothing in this book that will jar the
reader out of story.
This reviewer
particularly enjoyed the characters. When discovering the cancer, Clara
did what so many of us would do in immediately seeing herself as becoming
disfigured. She also closed out the people she loved such as her mother
and father. In becoming closer to Jed, her self image changes and grows.
Now Jed is a hero to dream off. A man of the ‘40s, he is polite,
respectful of women and caring of his family. He is a man of dreams yet
willing to set them aside to accept the responsibility of being the man of
the house. The secondary characters such as Jed’s sisters and Clara’s
landlord do a wonderful job of contributing to the story while not trying
to take it over.
This reviewer
highly recommends IF ONLY IN MY DREAMS to any readers who enjoy
time travel romances as well as Christmas tales. Get your copy today but
don’t wait til next Christmas to read it.
