This is the second
book about four unconventional ladies and their secret society, The
Ladie’s Amateur Sleuth Society. They seem to be quite adept at clue
solving but not so in the matter of their own hearts. In this story, we
meet Meg Piddington as she finds herself locked in her father’s chocolate
factory together with a very handsome gentleman, after hours. She soon
realises that she is to become his alibi to prove that he did not commit a
crime. But if she admits that she was with him, alone, it would destroy
her reputation and it would demand that Gareth must marry her. He would
rather face prison! While Meg finds danger in Gareth’s arms, she also
finds utmost pleasure which she cannot resist. She is determined to save
his job and find out who is at the bottom of all the trouble. Even if it
means she has to succumb to Gareth’s delicious wickedness.
This is an
absolutely fun book which will certainly cause the reader to chuckle.
Robyn DeHart writes witty characters that will find a place in the
reader’s heart. The enigmatic Gareth Mandeville is a mystery himself and
one that Meg has a lot of fun solving. Sexual tension runs high as Meg
and Gareth have no intention of committing themselves, but poor Gareth
just cannot resist Meg’s lovely lips, and Meg becomes breathless in his
presence. This reviewer loved Meg’s character. She is charming,
headstrong, a little naive and most of all, very unconventional. Gareth
is a hero who is proud and honorable. Ms DeHart certainly keeps her
reader guessing who the true villain is. First the finger is pointed to
one, then later she surprises her readers with the truth. This reviewer
had a lovely time reading this story and will certainly look up the first
book and will look forward to those to come.
