Facing her 40th
birthday, Melissa Lawson is determined to make some changes in her life.
Armed with her list, Melissa heads to the beauty salon for a cut and
color. While there, Melissa is shocked when she touches a piece of
antique equipment. Suddenly everything she wishes for appears! Including
a handsome man she is not quite able to wish gone.
39 & HOLDING
by Tia Bangs starts out as a humorous tale of a woman who has invested
everything in her children who are growing up. Unlike many women though,
Melissa recognizes the need to take charge of her own life and is taking
steps to do so. Watching Mel and her best friend Liz ‘test’ her magic by
wishing for everything under the sun was worth a good laugh and a wish
that this reader had the same ability as I can think of a Porsche that is
calling.
Having magic and a
handsome stud like Brent should have taken it to the next level however
when the Brent appeared the author’s originality seemed to disappear. The
conversations and arguments between Melissa and Brent are at times amusing
and at other times, they are stilted. The obstacles and the ending bring
to mind a movie I saw a few years ago.
This reviewer
unfortunately is unable to recommend 39 & HOLDING. However she
will be watching for more of Ms. Bangs’ work as this author definitely has
the touch for comedic writings. Just leave the magic out.
