THE SWEET SCENT OF
MURDER has Mavis, a new PI
intent on proving herself, with her half-day high school helper Candy,
and office Manager Margaret involving her in a wild case, and ably
assisting at the same time. A teen-age runaways’ brother has come to the
office to get Mavis’s help. Candy takes the case while Mavis is amazing
her boyfriend, police detective Ben Sorenson, with her first-time
shooting ability.
The plot thickens with the father of
the runaway ostensibly having a heart attack and dying. Mavis gets
involved to her eyebrows and provides the answers after much very
enjoyable antics.
The characters interact very
believably. The story flows, the plot is not inconceivable. One thing
this reviewer liked a lot is the fact that the boyfriend was not relied
upon to hand all the “non-attainable” information to the heroine.
THE SWEET SCENT OF
MURDER
is a very engaging mystery. Susan
P. Baker is a real talent. This reviewer is looking forward to
reading her work for hopefully many years to come. The inter action
between characters is engaging, and insightful. The twists and turns are
completely enthralling and delightful. The story unfolds very well, with
unexpected layers of intrigue.
Definitely a recommended read, this
reviewer gives THE SWEET SCENT OF MURDER
a 5. This mystery comes up smelling like a rose.
