Mercy’s already
been thrown bodily into vampire and werewolf politics. She’s not a
werewolf, but she was raised with them and knows the way they are.
Frustrating, but familiar.
The fae are
something else entirely. Mercy has friends among the point-eared bunch,
but she doesn’t know much more about them than anyone else does. When
she’s brought in by her old friend to look into the murders of some of
the fae, she doesn’t anticipate the kind of trouble it’ll get her in.
When that same old friend and former mentor is jailed by his own people
and charged with the crime, Mercy isn’t about to stand by and let him be
railroaded.
Mercy’s a walker.
Vampires have some notion of what that means. They don’t tolerate
walkers well. The Fae? They don’t know precisely how much trouble a
walker can cause. Mercy’s going to show them. And when the chips are
down, she’s going to show them why it’s a mistake to mess with a walker
who’s also an honorary werewolf.
A great addition to
a wonderful world. Patricia Briggs takes the more or less familiar
paranormal landscape and gives it a unique and personal twist. Her
characters are sharply drawn, powerfully present, and a lot of fun to
spend time with.
This third entry
into the Mercy Thompson series is a must-read for anyone who’s followed
the wily mechanic’s story thus far. If you’re going to have a coyote in
your corner, there’s no one better than this canny sometimes-canine
wench.
If you haven’t
ventured into this world yet, go out and buy all three. You’re going to
want to read them in a single gulp.
