Portia
Kirby is well beyond normal marrying age, although she does not really
consider herself a spinster. She knows she is not a beauty and does not
have vast wealth to tempt a man. So when Lord Castelton shows his favour
she figures he is just looking for a diversion while his broken leg heals
and she does not take his suit seriously. But for that matter, neither
does he!
David,
Lord Castelton watches Portia from the sidelines. He is bored with is life
and is intrigued by her. Of course it can not be love he feels…can it?
In
A GAME OF PLEASURE we meet Portia.
She is a delightful change of pace, a character that has known for more
than a few years that she is not marriage material. Not the normal tale of
a beautiful debutante. She enjoys her life out of the spotlight, where she
can match-make those who do not seem to realize where their true love
lies. Making a marriage is not her first priority. And this attitude
attracts Lord Castelton. He strikes up a friendship with her that soon
turns to a suit for her love. She seems oblivious to anything more than
friendship and this makes her all the more attractive and he launches a
full-fledged suit to win her favour. Oooo, this has the makings of a
terrific romance! The characters are riveting and quip the reader’s
interest.
The
flow of the book is smooth. This reviewer never felt a dull moment and
just had to keep turning the pages until the book came to an all-to-soon
end. Barbara Satow’s offer in A GAME OF
PLEASURE is top notch and is a “to be read again” author for this
reviewer.
