Tired of having to
satisfy herself while her husband cozies up to a bottle, Rose decides to
start her life anew in Mead, Maine. Not wanting to ever have to serve
another greasy burger to ungrateful customers, Rose begins taking web
design classes to start a new career. While she is at it, she decides to
make new friends and tries mingling with the locals. While buying
groceries one day, Rose meets Tom and agrees to go to dinner with him.
After dinner, Rose discovers that Tom has a rather large hidden asset!
However, before she can get a grip on the situation, Tom changes gears to
distract her. After their private moment, Rose does not hear from Tom so
she decides to try dating others but her mind never strays from Tom.
Rose is explained
quite well at the beginning of the book, giving the reader the feeling
that they understand her and her need for a new life. The story really
flows nicely until after Rose loses touch with Tom, then it seems to be
somewhat hit and miss as she waffles between trying to seek Tom out and
trying to move past him with the closest available man. For that time,
Rose seems to lose focus and that is reflected in the story. The build up
to the moment of truth between Rose and Tom is much more exciting than the
moment itself. With that much anticipation, this reviewer felt that it
should have been more earth shattering or emotionally charged. THE
MEAD STEED starts of strong and hopeful but in the end feels a little
like something was missing.
