Mia Stanley has a
knack as a matchmaker. Will her determination to see her friends happily
married end in heartbreak for herself when she belatedly realizes the man
she loves is her best friend who she has been trying to set up?
Besides
matchmaking, much to the displeasure of her parents and the social circle
they travel in, Mia is a writer for Godey’s Lady’s Book magazine.
At the time, as a lady of her social standing this just wasn’t done. When
the plight of the seamen’s wives catches her attention, stories of
children being sold and women forced to give sexual favors to pay debts
make Mia determined to do all she can to help them. But at what cost to
herself?
A LADY OF
HIGH REGARD
has a wonderful storyline that caught this reader’s attention from the
blurb. Our leading lady is a complex character with a huge heart. She has
dedicated her life to helping others less fortunate than herself. This
reviewer applauded Mia’s tenacity and daring. She is willing to put
herself in danger, believing that God would watch out for her, for the
betterment of others. What a wonderful character Mia is. And what a lesson
this story holds for all to learn in giving to others in need as God would
have us do.
A LADY OF
HIGH REGARD
is also full of romance. When Mia and her neighbour and childhood friend,
Garrett come to realize their feelings for each other, this reader smiled
with joy. At long last the matchmaker has made herself a match.
Well written
and holding a powerful message, A LADY OF HIGH REGARD however, did
drag a bit in the middle and this reader had to put it down and come back
to it later to finish. This inability to keep this reader’s attention
throughout is the reason for the lower rating that this book would have
normally received had it held a bit more action. The message given in A
LADY OF HIGH REGARD makes it well worth the read and allows this
reviewer to recommend it.
